Fabrication of Nano Zero valent Iron/Biopolymer Composite with Antibacterial Properties for Simultaneous Removal of Nitrate and Humic Acid: Kinetics and Isotherm Studies

This investigation compared the adsorption behavior of humic acid (HA) on cellulose, chitosan and nano zerovalent iron/chitosan (nZVI/chitosan). Results show that nZVI/chitosan is very effective in HA from aqueous media. The feasibility using as an adsorbent for simultaneous removal nitrate media was also studied. Structural analyses samples were identified by TEM, FT-IR, EDX, XRD N2 isotherms. effects pH, amount composite, concentration, concentration contact time their interactions responses explored central composite design (CCD) response surface methodology (RSM). optimal conditions pH (5.5), (0.098 g), reaction (27 min) initial concentrations (110 mg/L 30 HA) obtained desirability function. properties resulting nanocomposite toward investigated through kinetic isotherm studies. kinetics found to fit pseudo-second order model. results indicate uptake fitted well with Langmuir model while Freundlich best describing multilayer solutions. Moreover, illustrates a high antibacterial activity against pathogen bacteria strains such Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25935, 25923, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 27853. findings reported this highlight potential promising
